Being treated kindly and being informed so you can make decisions about what you want or need. Being understood. Sudden onset hearing loss is scary! Being left with tinnitus 24/7 is beyond frustrating. This hearing loss has altered my life and not positively. Having a knowledgeable professional to help answer questions and help deal with it takes some pressure off me.

On August 8, 2022, at about 8:35 am, I first realized something was wrong when I felt irritated by ringing and buzzing in my ear. At first, I thought it would stop after a few minutes, but as the noise continued for over half an hour, I started to panic. By 10 am, my alarm was building, and by 11 am, I realized I couldn’t hear out of that ear either. By 11:30 am, we were off to the hospital. When I first visited Great Lakes Hearing, my impression was that everyone was friendly and knowledgeable. 

 I now use Cross Over hearing aids, which have helped me feel a bit more confident about picking up sounds, even though I still can’t always tell where a sound is coming from. Working with the clinic, I especially appreciated being treated kindly and getting clear information to help make decisions about what I need. Being understood really mattered, especially since sudden hearing loss and ongoing tinnitus are scary and frustrating.
